THE PROPHET (PBUH) MUSEUM
STUDIO 7 PROJECT
MAKKAH
My design concept is inspired by the holy tree known as: Sidrat Al Muntaha. This is due to the following reasons: 1) It is located in the 7th heaven. 2) It is at the highest point. 3) It represents Unkown Knowledge. From this I derived my concept which is focusing on inspiring people to Ascend to the highest level that they can attain. This museum is going to focus on strengthening their belief by taking them through a journey starting with conflict and hardships until reaching the point of clarity and understanding.

There are many ways to reach this point, however, i decided to focus on the branch of Knowledge and Education since the main element of the tree is Unknown Knowledge and most importantly the first word ever revealed to the Prophet pbuh is IQRA.This tree has four different branches, so my museum has four main centers.
1. Education Center 2. Archive Center 3. Research Center 4. Library

![]() Massing DevelopmentMy mass is divided into two parts: these centers are located in the lower curved mass since they are considered as the tools that are needed to help build up knowledge. The second mass would be the focal point of the design made up of straight lines. It represents the clear built foundation of islam and how knowledge helps us to improve and grow. This vertical tower contains the exhibitions. | ![]() Sun Study | ![]() Project Program0 - Entrance The First Journey - A - Early Beginnings - 1 - Story of the Universe 2 - Allah (sw) Attributes 3 - Life Before Islam 4 - Revelation: IQRA 5 - Prophet (pbuh) hardships 6 - Hijrah from Makkah to Madinah |

Sustainability Studies:
My design took a sustainable approach by providing an extensive green roof system as well as adding sun shades, solar panels and designing the treatement of some parts of the building to make use of the surrounding wind and natural elements. Locations of these features were determined by solar and wind studies.
From this study i deduced that most of the sun is hitting the southern and western facades so i oriented my building to have the services at that side while the exhibitions, courtyard and openings are oriented towards the northern facade. This allowed me to have more glass and open accessable spaces. While in the other side, i used a dynamic sun shade facade that opens and closes according to the angle of the sun, thus providing a pleasant and controlled environment inside the museum.
