THE GREEK CONSULATE

STUDIO 3 PROJECT

JEDDAH

Design Concept and Solution: The famous theatres in Greece, such as Theatre of Dionysus, inspired the main concept of my design. I took the idea of the different levels in the theatre and added it to my building. I wanted to provide more security for the consulate, which is why I made the consulate building separate from the public. At the same time both buildings are meeting in one center as if it is coming out of the ground like the Greek theatre. The idea of the water feature in the center was to further emphasis this. I also increased the height of the ground by 2 meters and made it shaped like a hill. This is to show that the building is built out of the nature, just like the theatre.

WHEN

FALL 2013

The main features of my design include the circular staircase with the elevator and fountain in the consular building, the columns, stepped pools and bridge. Also I have all the views directed to the center.

The materials used were meant to create a mixture of traditional and modern styles. Enforced Steel, glass, stone, concrete and marble, for extravagance and security at the same time. All the glass is strong and bullet proof, the walls are strong reinforced concrete. I also have double-glazed windows to prevent the heat from entering and to provide a cool environment. There are a lot of open spaces to provide a more welcoming environment to the people, there are also balconies and outside sitting areas to help promote that.

I used a lot of greenery in my landscape and kept is simple to emphasize my building more.
